<Abstract>

This paper presents generalized analytical expressions for throughput and transmission delay of IEEE 802.11 string-topology multi-hop networks. The analytical expressions obtained in this paper give throughput and end-to-end delay at any hop number, any frame length, and any offered load by taking into account relationship between backoff timer decrement and transmission time, Markov-chain model for two-way flow, and queuing theory over MAC-layer frame-collision probability. The analytical expressions are verified by comparisons with simulation Key words IEEE 802.11 multi-hop networks, throughput analysis, end-to-end delay, Markov-Chain model, queuing theory, collision probability.
