A design of inductively coupled wireless power transfer system with coupling coil optimization
For development of inductive coupled wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, it is important to consider the overall efficiency of the WPT systems, where the overall efficiency is expressed as the product of the transmission efficiency of coupling coils and the power-conversion efficiency of power converters. Additionally, there are mutual dependencies between coupling coil parameters and power-converter ones. Therefore, it is necessary to design the power converters and the coupling coils simultaneously for maximizing the overall efficiency. This paper presents a design of inductively coupled WPT systems with coupling coil optimization for maximizing the overall efficiency. By combining design equations of the WPT system with class-E switching converters and theoretical formulas of magnetic-component design, the WPT system achieving maximum overall efficiency under specified physical conditions, such as coils size, distance between coils and so on, can be designed. Circuit experiments showed the validity and usefulness of the proposed design method. |
