<Abstract>

Japan is one of the leading countries in adopting IPv6 for Internet services and communication. Most of the Internet infrastructures have well-supported IPv6, a large portion of Internet users have been using IPv6. This research briefly investigates how the academic sector reacts to the IPv6 trend. More specifically, we take a look at IPv6 adoption of Japanese university websites. We find that, despite the popularity of IPv6 in Japan, a significant number of websites are not yet IPv6 capable. We then conduct the performance comparison of IPv4 and IPv6 when accessing the IPv6 capable websites. The experimental results show that the TCP connect and HTTP load time are similar with the two IP versions.
