mµ‘Òu‰‰] Toward User-Centric Mobile Device: a Network Softwarization
Approach
Although mobile wireless networks have been revolutionized quickly and efficiently, in the recent generation (i.e., 5G), a 5G device owner still has limited ways of using accessible networks. This work introduces a novel way to improve 5G network utilization from the user perspective by shifting the selection of one or several networks for an application to the 5G device. Our solution relies on a set of network softwarization techniques, which are Software-Defined Networking, Wireless Virtualization, and Network Namespace. We combine them and virtualize the networking stack on a 5G device. Each virtualized stack can attach to one or several networks while serving applications following user demands at a process level. The evaluation results of our prototype confirm the solution's efficiency and show a negligible overhead compared to a 4G device. |
