<Abstract>

This work introduces a network softwarization approach to efficiently exploit multiple wireless networks on a 5G mobile device following owner demands. More specifically, we present 5GSoft, which productively combines three network softwarization technologies: Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Wireless Virtualization (WV), and Network Namespace ( NS). While SDN is utilized to appropriately harness multiple wireless networks' resources per user pre-determined rules, WV relaxes the dependence on hardware and makes SDN more wireless-friendly. 5GSoft additionally uses NS to provide network awareness at a fine granularity level of the application process. We have implemented and shown the advantages of 5GSoft by comparatively evaluating it against 4G. Moreover, we introduce a use case in which 5GSoft is useful for continuous offloading with network failure
